Change Your Prospective ~ go from winter blahs to winter Ahhhs
By Gina | November 10, 2009
It’s mid November.
You see the darkness starting to take over earlier and earlier. You feel a little chill in your bones. You start yawning and it’s only 6:30 pm. You feel a sense of gloom taking over your mood.
Does this sound, or should I say ‘feel’ familiar?
Why is it this way anyway? Why do I always here about sunny summer days and dreary, gloomy winter days? Is it something that we are conditioned to think - that with winter comes the doom and gloom feelings? Maybe it has something to do with childhood. I, for some reason, remember being a little afraid of the dark. I liked to have a night light in my room. Did I use to have nightmares maybe and this made me not like being in the dark? And those feelings start to show up once it starts getting darker earlier in the winter months?
This year I’m going to change those thoughts!
And I’m extending this challenge out to you as well.
Choose to change.
In my last blog post, I talked about what I am going to cultivate to enjoy this winter and make it more warm and cozy instead of dreary and blah. It’s a conscious choice I made. I just decided to do it and that’s it. How about you?
I’ve been imagining what else would make my winter more warm and cozy
and I’ve come up with more ideas of things to cultivate besides the others I mentioned in my last blog post.
Here they are:
- Making more of an effort to stay in touch with those who mean a lot to me
- Making more of an effort to get in touch and meet new people I feel called to meet
- Making more ‘dates’ with friends and family so to spend more quality time with them
- Listening to guided meditations
- Align with positive and grateful thoughts every day
- Listen to my favorite music daily
- Tune in with the darkness and find out what it’s all about
When you don’t push away those gloomy feelings
and actually let them be, then what you may have been hiding in the dark part of your soul will be brought into the light and finally, will not haunt you any more. I’m curious to see what shows up for me this winter - I’ll keep you informed.
If any other ideas come to mind, I will share them as well.
So are you up for the challenge to change your prospective?
I’d love to hear all about it. Share your comments below.
Wishing you a warm and cozy winter!
