My Dog-Walking Workout
By Gina | November 17, 2009
I walk my dog twice a day and I also workout 4-5 times a week. I mix up my workouts between yoga, weights, walking, dancing and whatever else comes to mind for me in the moment.
So one day when I was a little short on time, I took Roxy (my bullmastiff) to the park and I thought, ‘hey, why not incorporate my workout into this walk.’ And yes, sometimes I do take brisk walks with her, but she does like to sniff a lot and I do like to vary my workouts and do lots of cross-training so this is what I did that day:
We’d walk fast for a bit, Roxy would stop and sniff, and I’d do some squats while she sniffed. Then we’d walk fast for another minute or so, she found a good sniff spot, and I did knee lifts. That’s how it went:
Walk, squats, walk, lunge walks, walk, knee lifts, walk, leg lifts, walk, calf raises, walk, little jumps etc.
It was great. Roxy got to do what she wanted to do and I got to do a cross-training workout. We do this for about 30 minutes - gets my heart rate up and muscle training in and walahh………great workout when short on time.
What are your workout suggestions or thoughts? Would love to hear them!
