    Essential Oil Profile ~ Damask Rose

    Ahh, the heavenly scent of Rose - the perfect essential oil to profile during the month of February. When I think of Rose essential oil, royalty, grace and beauty come to mind. Did you ever just stare at a rose in bloom? I mean really look at it - it’s a meditation in itself. It takes approximately 60,000 roses to make 1 ounce of rose essential oil making it one of the most expensive oils.

    Botanical name: Rosa damascena

    Family: Rosaceae

    Extraction: Essential oil or otto by steam distillation of the fresh petals and the Concrete or Absolute by solvent extraction of the fresh petals

    Aroma: Sweet, rich and floral

    Properties: Antibacterial, antidepressant, antispasmodic, astringent, aphrodisiac, sedative

    Therapeutic Uses: Skincare (dry skin, eczema, wrinkles, sensitive & mature skin), palpitations, hay fever, nausea, uterine disorders, depression, insomnia, anxiety

    Mixes well with: Lavender, chamomile, lemon, jasmine, geranium, bergamot, benzoin, palmarosa, neroli, rosewood, patchouli, sandalwood

    Cautions: Non-toxic, non-irritant

    Associated Chakras: Heart (4th Chakra - in Sanskrit is called, Anahata); Color vibration - Green;

    Rose essential oil brings harmony and comfort. It awakens your heart energy and helps you to experience a deeper love - an unconditional love, caring and gentleness for oneself. It gives a sense of security and helps us to feel connected to all things. Rose assists with letting go of grief and past relationships, thus restoring the trust to know that it’s possible to love again and regain your passions in life.
